FULL CLASS & RULE SCHEDULE
GENERAL SHOW RULES
- This is an Unaffiliated Showing Show and classes will be judged according to the individual class requirements and overall suitability, manners, presentation and turnout.
- The judge’s decision is final.
- The welfare of all horses and ponies must be the first priority at all times.
- Competitors must ride and handle their horses and ponies in a safe and responsible manner.
- Correct and suitable tack, riding attire and turnout are expected for all classes.
- Hard hats meeting current recognised safety standards must be worn whenever mounted.
- Competitors must be appropriately dressed for the class entered.
- Horses and ponies must be fit, sound and suitable to compete.
- The organisers reserve the right to refuse an entry, cancel or combine classes where necessary.
- Classes may be split at the organiser’s discretion where entries warrant.
- The judge may request individual shows, a ride around or any other demonstration considered necessary to assist with judging.
- Excessive use of whips, spurs or harsh handling will not be tolerated.
- The organisers accept no responsibility for loss, damage, injury or accident to competitors, spectators, horses, ponies, vehicles or property, except where legally required.
- Competitors enter and participate at their own risk.
- All competitors must comply with the venue’s rules and any instructions given by the show organisers or stewards.
- 1st and 2nd place are invited forward to the relevant Championship, where applicable.
- Championship qualification will be confirmed by the steward before leaving the ring.
- Competitors must be correctly entered into the qualifying class to be eligible for a Championship.
- The organisers reserve the right to amend the timetable if circumstances require.
RING 1 – IN-HAND CLASSES
MORNING CLASSES
CLASS 1 – IN-HAND YOUNGSTOCK
Open to young horses and ponies 3 and under.
Judged on conformation, type, movement, condition, manners, presentation and future potential.
Youngstock should be presented safely and appropriately for their age.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 2 – IN-HAND NOVICE HORSE & PONY
Open to novice horses and ponies with limited showing experience.
Judged on conformation, manners, movement, presentation, suitability and overall impression.
The class is intended for genuine novice animals and is not intended for established showing combinations.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 3 – IN-HAND YOUNG HANDLER
Open to young handlers 12yrs and under.
Judged on the handler’s ability to safely and confidently present their horse or pony, including leading, standing, turning and presenting the animal to the judge.
The judge may take the handler’s age and experience into consideration.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 4 – IN-HAND HUNTER / HUNTER TYPE
Open to horses and ponies of suitable hunter type.
Judged on conformation, bone, substance, movement, manners, condition, presentation and overall hunter type.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 5 – IN-HAND COBS – HOGGED OR HAIRY
Open to suitable cob types, whether hogged or traditionally hairy.
Judged on cob type, conformation, bone, substance, feather where applicable, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 6 – IN-HAND MINIATURE BREEDS
Open to miniature and small pony breeds.
Judged on breed/type characteristics, conformation, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 7 – IN-HAND COLOUREDS
Open to coloured horses and ponies, including suitable piebald and skewbald animals.
Judged on colour, conformation, type, movement, manners, condition and overall presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 8 – IN-HAND ALTERNATIVE COLOURS
Open to horses and ponies displaying alternative or unusual recognised colours.
Examples may include palomino, buckskin, dun, roan, cremello, perlino and other suitable colours.
Judged on colour, conformation, type, movement, manners and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 9 – IN-HAND RARE / ALTERNATIVE BREEDS
Open to rare, unusual, foreign or alternative breeds and types.
Judged on breed characteristics, conformation, movement, manners, suitability, condition and presentation.
Competitors may be asked to provide evidence of breed where appropriate.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
AFTERNOON IN-HAND CLASSES

CLASS 10a – IN-HAND NATIVE BREEDS – SMALL BREEDS
Open to small Mountain & Moorland/native breeds.
Judged on correct breed type, conformation, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 11 – IN-HAND NATIVE BREEDS – LARGE BREEDS
Open to large Mountain & Moorland/native breeds.
Judged on correct breed type, conformation, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 12 – IN-HAND VETERAN
Open to veteran horses and ponies.
Judged with consideration given to age, condition, soundness, manners, conformation, movement and overall presentation.
The class rewards a well-cared-for veteran rather than simply younger appearance.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 13 – IN-HAND HEAVY HORSE
Open to heavy horses and suitable heavy horse types.
Judged on breed/type, conformation, bone, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 14 – IN-HAND PRETTIEST MARE
Open to mares of any suitable breed or type.
Judged on overall attractiveness, femininity, conformation, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 15 – IN-HAND HANDSOMEST GELDING
Open to geldings of any suitable breed or type.
Judged on overall attractiveness, conformation, movement, manners, condition and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 16 – IN-HAND BEST TURNED OUT
Open to all suitable horses and ponies.
Judged primarily on overall presentation and turnout, including cleanliness, grooming, preparation, condition, handler presentation and attention to detail.
The class is intended to reward a well-presented horse and handler combination.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 17 – NEW COMBINATION – IN-HAND OR RIDDEN
Open to new horse-and-handler/rider combinations.
The class may be entered either in-hand or ridden.
Judged on partnership, manners, presentation, suitability and the confidence and communication between horse/pony and handler or rider.
This class is intended to encourage newer partnerships and competitors.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
CLASS 18 – CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE – RIDDEN OR IN-HAND
Open to horses and ponies presented either ridden or in-hand.
Judged on elegance, overall appearance, presentation, turnout, manners, movement and the partnership between horse/pony and competitor.
The emphasis is on style, elegance and overall impression.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 1 Championship.
RING 1 CHAMPIONSHIP
IN-HAND CHAMPIONSHIP
1st and 2nd place from Classes 1–18 are invited.
Competitors must report to the steward and be ready to enter the Championship ring when called.
The Championship will be judged on overall quality, conformation, type, manners, movement, presentation, condition and overall impression.
The judge may request individual presentation.

CLASS 22 – RIDDEN PART-BRED COB
Open to part-bred cobs suitable for ridden showing.
Judged on cob type, conformation, manners, movement, rideability, suitability and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 23 – RIDDEN COB – TRADITIONAL
Open to traditional ridden cobs.
Judged on traditional cob type, conformation, substance, feather where appropriate, manners, way of going, suitability and turnout.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 24 – NON-NATIVE PLAITED COLOUREDS – RIDDEN
Open to non-native coloured horses and ponies presented in suitable plaited turnout.
Judged on colour, conformation, movement, manners, suitability, turnout and overall presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 25 – RIDDEN WELSH A, B, C & D
Open to ridden Welsh Sections A, B, C and D.
All sections compete together unless entries allow the class to be divided.
Judged on correct Welsh type, conformation, manners, movement, suitability and presentation.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 26a – RIDDEN M&M – SMALL BREEDS
Open to ridden small Mountain & Moorland breeds.
Judged on correct breed type, conformation, manners, movement, suitability and presentation.

CLASS 26b – RIDDEN M&M – LARGE BREEDS
Open to ridden large Mountain & Moorland breeds.

Open to ridden hunters and suitable hunter types.
Judged on hunter type, conformation, manners, movement, rideability, suitability, turnout and overall presence.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 28 – RIDDEN ROR
Open to eligible former racehorses.
Judged on conformation, manners, movement, rideability, suitability, presentation and overall impression.
The class celebrates the versatility and suitability of former racehorses in ridden showing.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 29 – RIDDEN EQUITATION
Open to all suitable horses and ponies.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the rider’s position, balance, effectiveness, correctness, control and ability to influence the horse or pony.
The judge may request individual or group exercises.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 30 – TINY TOTS
Open to our youngest competitors.
A fun and introductory class for young children and suitable ponies.
Judged on confidence, manners, presentation and the partnership between child and pony. Age and experience will be taken into consideration.
Lead rein may be used where appropriate.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 31 – LEAD REIN / FIRST RIDDEN – PLAITED PONY
Open to suitable plaited ponies.
For children competing on the lead rein or as first ridden, according to age and experience.
Judged on pony’s manners, suitability, way of going, presentation and the child’s confidence and ability.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 32 – LEAD REIN / FIRST RIDDEN – M&M
Open to suitable Mountain & Moorland ponies.
For children competing on the lead rein or as first ridden.
Judged on breed type, manners, suitability, way of going, presentation and the partnership between child and pony.
1st and 2nd place invited to the Ring 2 Championship.
CLASS 33 – RIDDEN ALTERNATIVE COLOUR
Open to ridden horses and ponies displaying alternative or unusual recognised colours.

Judged on breed/type, conformation, substance, manners, movement, rideability, suitability and presentation.

RING 2 CHAMPIONSHIP

1st and 2nd place from Classes 19–35 are invited.
Competitors must report to the Championship steward and be ready to enter Ring 2 when called.

Please note: Timings are approximate. Competitors must be ready and listening for their class. Classes may run earlier or later depending on entries, judging and circumstances.
QUALIFICATION FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
1st and 2nd place are invited to the relevant Championship.
For the Ring 1 In-Hand Championship, qualifiers are from Classes 1–18.
For the Ring 2 Ridden Championship, qualifiers are from Classes 19–35.
Competitors who qualify in more than one class may attend the Championship once as the same horse/pony and competitor combination.
The show organiser reserves the right to clarify qualification and eligibility where necessary.
COMPETITOR DRESS & TURNOUT
Competitors should present themselves and their horse or pony in appropriate showing attire.
In-Hand
- Suitable smart showing attire
- Correct footwear
- Gloves where appropriate
- Suitable in-hand bridle or show halter according to type/breed
- Horse/pony clean, groomed and presented appropriately
- Handler must be safely dressed and capable of controlling the horse/pony
Ridden
- Correctly fitted approved riding hat
- Suitable riding boots
- Appropriate show jacket and shirt/tie or stock
- Suitable gloves
- Suitable riding trousers/breeches
- Horse/pony correctly groomed and presented
- Tack appropriate to the class and horse/pony
Breed-specific turnout may be used where appropriate.
